Approval voting In the 13th century the Venetians introduced a system known as approval voting to elect Venetian Dogi for over 500 years. In this system, where electors cast one vote for every candidate they find acceptable and none for those whom they deem unacceptable. Hence the winner is the person who is acceptable to the largest number of voters. While this outcome might be acceptable to many, is it the most desirable and fair outcome?
The original Venetian system sounds complicated to say the least, although as you read about the process do consider why the various stages were introduced and what the effect of each might have on the outcome.
