The Sound of Silence Paul Simon

The Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel

Here's an updated interpretation of this famous song. "The Sounds of Silence" launched the 1960s folk music duo Simon and Garfunkel to popularity. Written by Paul Simon on February 15, 1964 in the aftermath of President John F. Kennedy's assassination (November 22, 1963). Simon believed the song helped express the trauma that impacted most Americans. This version is performed by Cantos Gregorianos Modernos with art, visuals, and photos created and/or formatted by Spadecaller.

Lyrics:

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence

The Sound of Silence

I'm glad that they're wearing suits. Otherwise, i would be afraid that a couple of guys singing about feelings and social consciousness are Communists.

The song was written following Kennedy's assassination to try and describe an entire countries reaction.
In Watchmen the Comedian works for the US gov and you see him killing Kennedy.
The song is then played at the funeral for the Comedian. I can't imagine a more perfect song for that scene.

Its about people going through there every day life and not showing the people around them how they feel inside or communicating there feelings hence the sound of silence. It was writen not long after president Kennardy was shot and the world was in shock.

The Sounds of Silence je singl dua Simon and Garfunkel, které roku 1965 vydalo vydavatelství Columbia Records.

Tehdy vytvořil několik mistrovských folkových skladeb, jako „Carlos Dominguez“, „He Was My Brother“, nebo „Sparrow“ (1963). V polovině šedesátých let také napsal spolu s Brucem Woodley „Red Rubber Ball“, který natočila americká skupina The Cyrkle a dosáhla s ním druhého místa v americké hitparádě...

...Během své sólové dráhy Paul pokračoval ve vytváření textů, které jedinečným způsobem komentovaly svět soudobé společnosti, lidského nitra, ztráty přirozené komunikace, písní milostných i sžíravě ironických...
